Research topicThis interdisciplinary project is devoted to mathematical aspects and methods of modelling and simulation in fluid mechanics and in fluid-structure interaction. We intend to study the internal (geometric) structure of partial differential equations describing the behaviour of fluids in various contexts. We plan to use these results for constructing numerical methods appropriate for such systems - they are called geometric integrators and are generally shown to be more reliable and robust.Applicant's profileWe search for a candidate either with background in differential geometry open to applications or a specialist in mechanics and numerical methods with a certain taste for conceptualization and abstract formalism.Practical detailsThe position starts in the beginning of 2025. It is for 2 years, renewable based on evaluation for one more year.The successful candidate will spend approximately half time in Jilin and half in La Rochelle, and will be supervised by Vladimir Salnikov (La Rochelle), with the participation of Jiwei Jia, Wang Chunpeng, Yongkui Zou or Ran Zhang (Jilin), depending on the precise research direction. The approximate gross salary starts at 240 000 yuan/year (~ 30 000 eur/year) and can go up to 480 000 yuan/year depending on the experience and publication record of the candidate.
